The enactment of the investor-friendly Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act, 2007 and the apparent focus of Nigeria’s Federal Government on this neglected sector suggest that major activity is likely to result in this area of the law in the next few years.

We continue to act for a number of indigenous and foreign mining companies on their existing or proposed entry and investments in Nigeria and are well-positioned to be at the forefront of this area of the law as it continues to develop.

We are currently advising two Australian companies on various aspects of their gold and iron-ore exploration projects.

The firm can advise on inter alia, the following areas and issues.

  • The application for and obtainment of mining titles and all other permits necessary for exploration, exploitation etc.;
  • Negotiations and agreements with host communities;
  • Joint venture arrangements;
  • Due diligence;
  • Registration of local subsidiaries all matters connected to foreign investments in Nigeria;
  • Environmental Regulations;
  • Interfacing with government departments; and
  • Dispute resolution
